Heat Stroke Prevention in the Workplace

Defeat Your Fiend...The Heat

Heat radiates on us daily, so what's the big deal? The numbers have a lot to say about heat stroke and illnesses in the workplace...

Prevention should be your new best confession...

The National Weather Service’s data records that in 2023, heat strokes are prominently more murderous compared to other newsworthy natural disasters! Last year, there were 207 heat related deaths, while hurricanes only had 3!

Are You Watching Out for Symptoms & Signs of Heat Stroke?

Johns Hopkins Medicine states that heat cramps are caused when muscles suffer convulsions, due to the body rapidly losing water.

Heat stroke occurs when the body’s temperature can’t simmer down on its own anymore, and sweating is not enough for a cooldown.

OSHA identifies these symptoms and other heat illnesses such as heat exhaustion, so you're not left bone-dry from the facts...

  • Heat rashes
  • Dizziness (Heat Exhaustion)
  • Excessive perspiration (Heat Exhaustion & Stroke)
  • Unconsciousness (Heat Stroke)

You don’t want your employees passing out! Collapsing on dead weight can be fatal! The way you or your employees fall, could lead to broken bones, concussions, or other life threatening problems if you land the wrong way! It's also important to survey for other indicators (like diarrhea and vomiting) if you think you're weakened from the heat.

Now you may wonder, "What's the likelihood of my employees experiencing these heat symptoms?"

The Reality of Occupational Heat Illnesses

USA Facts states that transportation divisions have soaring heat based wounds, with 440 victims. Construction workers are next on the rank, coming in at 410 individuals. The National Library of Medicine discovered that construction workers who seem to endlessly endure the sun, are expected to encounter dehydration.

Besides construction workers, if your employees work in an office, the AC has the capability to give out. The nature of this worker would also be unstable, for being unfamiliar with these suffocating conditions.

On the same notion, think about the manufacturer & plant workers who have continual AC absence in their lengthy shifts…they would especially need first aid heat treatments since their chances for heat stroke are increased!

Did you know? The Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals data from 2011-2021 that there have been 436 deaths on the job from heat stroke?

Sadly, there are still innumerable and untold worker stories regarding heat incidents in the workplace.

The early stages of dehydration and beyond, have consequences because…

If a person has less than 1-2% of their body weight, then productiveness will drop 6-7%!

Heat and dehydration will unquestionably interfere. Don’t let it become a critical and dire situation for your team.
